Two UF College of Medicine faculty named distinguished professors
Faculty recognized for contributions to the fields of cancer and cardiovascular research
Jan. 29, 2025 — Two University of Florida College of Medicine professors have been named distinguished professors at the university, the highest faculty honor at UF.
Distinguished Professors at UF are named based on an exceptional record of achievement in teaching, research, and publication, as well as for professional and public service, both nationally and internationally. The title signifies a rare and special accomplishment, acknowledging a candidate’s preeminent standing in their discipline. To date, only seven faculty members in the College of Medicine’s history have received the distinction.
Christian Jobin, Ph.D.

Christian Jobin, Ph.D., the Gatorade Professor of Medicine and co-leader of the UF Health Cancer Center’s Immuno-Oncology and Microbiome research program, is the first distinguished professor in the UF Department of Medicine.
Jobin’s lab has been at the forefront of microbiota research in recent years and has contributed valuable knowledge on how bacteria influence the development of colitis and colitis-associated colorectal cancer. His lab discovered the cancer-promoting effect of colibactin, a metabolite produced by some gut E. coli, and revealed how inflammation impacts DNA damage induced by microbes that can lead to mutations and diseases like cancer.
Dominick Angiolillo, M.D., Ph.D.

Dominick Angiolillo, M.D., Ph.D., the chief of cardiology and medical director of the UF Health Cardiovascular Center in Jacksonville and a professor of medicine at the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville, has been a key investigator in the clinical development of numerous novel therapies for blood clots and the prevention of thrombosis.
Angiolillo’s success in obtaining funding has enabled him to develop one of the most active clinical research centers in the U.S., as well as one of the leading centers for thrombosis research in the world.
