UF Medicine students, residents and faculty inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha
Alpha Omega Alpha is a national medical honor society committed to leadership
March 26, 2024 — A select few of the University of Florida College of Medicine’s elite students, residents and faculty were elected for lifelong membership into a highly prestigious national organization, the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, in an annual banquet March 14.
Since the society’s establishment in 1902, over 200,000 physicians and medical students have been inducted from medical schools across the country. The UF Beta Chapter was established in May 1960 and was the 85th local chapter to be chartered.
For students, membership is limited to those who have excelled academically and in leadership, scholarship, character, service and future potential as a physician. Only one-fifth of the total class enrollment may be chosen, and the final determination is held by vote from faculty and student members.
The society is founded on the principle that its members should “be worthy to serve the suffering” and dedicated to improving care for all by recognizing high educational achievement, honoring gifted teaching, encouraging the development of leaders in academia and the community, supporting the ideals of humanism and promoting service to others.
