Five faculty honored with awards at 2024 Celebration of Research
The awards recognize rising and established researchers in their fields, along with an influential mentor
Feb. 19, 2024 — During this year’s two-day Celebration of Research event, four College of Medicine faculty members received recognition for their contributions as outstanding or rising star researchers in their respective fields. An additional faculty member was also honored with an award that acknowledges the crucial role mentors play in research achievements. Congratulations to the following UF Medicine faculty who received the 2024 College of Medicine faculty research awards:
Dr. Brian L. Hoh
Brian L. Hoh, M.D., M.B.A., FACS, FAHA, FAANS, chair of the Lillian S. Wells Department of Neurosurgery, studies the mechanisms for the development and formation of cerebral aneurysms, why they rupture and the acute and delayed neural injury that occurs after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. Hoh is the winner of the 2024 UF College of Medicine Outstanding Research Scientist Award in Clinical, Data or Artificial Intelligence Sciences.
Dr. Zhijian Qian
Zhijian Qian, Ph.D., a professor in the department of medicine, studies the mechanisms that lead to the development of blood cancer with the goal of identifying novel targeted therapies for myeloid malignant diseases. Qian is the winner of the 2024 UF College of Medicine Outstanding Research Scientist Award in Basic or Translational Sciences.
Dr. Tyler Loftus
As a clinician and data scientist, Tyler Loftus, M.D., an assistant professor in the department of surgery, conducts research that uses artificial intelligence to help clinicians make better-informed decisions regarding patients undergoing surgery. Loftus is the winner of the 2024 UF College of Medicine Rising Star Researcher Award in Clinical, Data or Artificial Intelligence Sciences.
Dr. Erica Dale
Erica Dale, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the department of physiology and aging, studies the neurons in the cervical spine that control breathing to develop new treatments and devices for those with spinal cord injuries. Dale is the winner of the 2024 UF College of Medicine Rising Star Researcher Award in Basic or Translational Sciences.
Dr. Linda Bloom
Linda Bloom, Ph.D., a professor and associate chair of the department of biochemistry and molecular biology, has a passion for fostering a love of science and helping students create a meaningful career. She is the winner of the 2024 College of Medicine Dr. Mavis Agbandje-McKenna Distinguished Research Mentoring Award.
