Realizing a dream
The UF School of Physician Assistant Studies welcomes 56 students to the class of 2025
June 30, 2023 — For Gabrielle Register, opening a box to unveil her very first stethoscope was a surreal experience that felt like the continuation of a legacy.
“It was a really special moment for me and I kind of teared up,” said Register, a member of the UF School of Physician Assistant Studies class of 2025, whose mother also graduated from UF’s PA program. “This has been my biggest dream for years and years and years, so putting that stethoscope on just felt right.”
Register is one of 56 students in the UF PA class of 2025, who began their medical studies with orientation sessions inside the George T. Harrell, M.D., Medical Education Building June 28. On their first day of PA school, the students received the gift of their first stethoscopes, purchased with donations from alumni and friends of the PA school.
At this year’s stethoscope presentation, Nina Multak, Ph.D., MPAS, PA-C, the associate dean and Randolph B. Mahoney director of the UF School of PA Studies, thanked alumnus Gary Gossman and his partner Jeanne Geldbaugh, both PA ’82, who have provided generous donations to the student stethoscope fund. Gossman and Geldbaugh attended this year’s presentation, where they were honored with a special gift from the School of PA Studies for their commitment to helping the next generation of PAs on their journeys to becoming health care providers.
“The stethoscope fund was established to give back to a caring group of bright people who will soon wake up every day — as I did — knowing their sole job is to help others,” Gossman said. “They will become a vital part of health care. The stethoscope is iconic, and I want them to receive it from a guy who began just as they are now and has had a remarkably gratifying and successful career.”

“In my family, caring for human beings through medicine is a treasured tradition founded in shared faith and passed from my grandmother, who served for decades as a nurse at Alachua General, to my mother, who graduated from UF’s PA program almost 30 years ago and has been fiercely caring and advocating for patients at UF Health ever since. I grew up knowing that to be a health care provider was to see people in their most desperate moments and reaffirm their dignity through compassionate and excellent care. What started as a family value has become an integral part of my identity: people are worth taking care of.”

“I have strongly connected to UF over the past five years, but when it came to choosing a PA school, I was always curious what a new college and city would have to offer me. After visiting different schools, I realized nothing quite compared to being a Gator! I am a little nervous to begin, but like many students, I am excited to take the next big step in my career. With the exceptional education and training the UF PA School will offer me, I am confident I will be able to positively influence thousands of patients and their communities.”

“As a child, I had always been curious about medicine, as I often had to translate for my parents during their clinical visits with their doctor due to a language barrier. The exceptional care my parents received from their health care providers inspired me to enter the field. It still does not feel real that I was accepted into UF’s PA program and that the program is about to start. I am feeling nervous and excited about the start of a new chapter. I am looking forward to meeting all my classmates, getting to know the faculty and staff of the UF program and creating new memories.”
