March 31, 2022 – Faculty were invited to reflect on their teaching accomplishments and their dedication to shaping the next generation of health care professionals at the UF College of Medicine’s 22nd annual Celebration of Excellence in Medical Education awards reception March 15.
Hosted by the Society of Teaching Scholars at the George T. Harrell, M.D., Medical Education Building, the event opened with remarks from Dean Colleen Koch, M.D., M.S., M.B.A., followed by a presentation of awards to a handful of students and dozens of faculty members at the UF College of Medicine in Gainesville and Jacksonville and a recognition of new inductees to the society.
This year’s reception marked a first for the society, with Breann Garbas, DHSc, PA-C, an assistant professor in the UF School of Physician Assistant Studies, becoming the first PA faculty member to be accepted. She joined four other faculty in the 2022 class of inductees. Members are selected based on nominations and a review of teaching portfolios.
The reception served as a capstone for Medical Education Week, an annual series of lectures and workshops organized by the society. The goal of the group is to identify a cadre of recognized experts to advise the College of Medicine on ways to enhance its educational mission, serve as role models to junior faculty, residents and students and demonstrate the college’s commitment to high-quality teaching and learning.
