Feb. 12, 2020 — Ronald Berry, M.D., has been named the director of the University of Florida Student Health Care Center, or SHCC. Berry, who has served as interim director of the SHCC since February 2019, is the perfect candidate to lead the AAAHC-accredited center and advance the future health and wellness needs of an increasingly diverse and expanding student community.

The SHCC director is a leadership position within the department of community health and family medicine in the UF College of Medicine. Berry is charged with helping the more than 50,000 UF undergraduate and graduate students achieve optimal health as they pursue personal and academic success. He leads a team of experienced multidisciplinary staff committed to providing high-quality, convenient and student-focused medical care. The current staff comprises more than 135 employees, including physicians, physician assistants, advanced practice registered nurses, registered nurses and health support technicians.

The Student Health Care Center, which began operating in 1906, has a long history of meeting the health and wellness needs of UF students — an essential undertaking for a university of UF’s size and stature. In his role as director, Berry will oversee the primary care, sports medicine and mental health services provided to students. This includes overseeing the wellness functions, after-hours services and the educational and research activities performed at SHCC.

Berry, an assistant professor in the department of community health and family medicine, is board-certified in family practice and has been a member of the Student Health Care Center since 1989. He received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Florida in 1979 and his medical degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine in 1982. Berry completed his residency in family practice in Pensacola.
