UF College of Medicine hosts 2018 Celebration of Research award ceremony
17 medical students share the results of their research as part of 2018 Celebration of Research award ceremony
Feb. 26, 2018 — Seventeen UF College of Medicine students mingled and shared results of their research in the George T. Harrell, M.D., Medical Education Building Friday afternoon as part of the college’s 2018 Celebration of Research award ceremony.
Of the 96 posters presented by medical students at the annual Celebration of Research event Feb. 19, four were awarded top prizes and 13 were chosen as semi-finalists. The posters were ranked by a group of Health Science Center faculty, and each winner received a cash prize.
Laura Cline received the Alpha Omega Alpha Award of $1,000 for her poster “Examining the pathogenicity of variants of uncertain significance in Factor 1 from transplant candidates.” She excitedly shared her research with faculty like UF College of Medicine Dean Michael L. Good, M.D., on Friday.
“It’s nice to take a break from classroom education and dive into where medicine is going,” she said. “Being able to participate in the UF Student Research Program gives us that opportunity to be a part of the future of medicine. Winning this award is icing on the cake.”
Good presented each student with a certificate and congratulated their strides in research.
“You all are so far ahead of your time, and your accomplishments are impressive,” he said.
