The evening, held in honor of those involved with medical education at the University of Florida College of Medicine, started off on a high note. At the 10th Annual Medical Education Banquet April 21 hosted by the Society of Teaching Scholars, several students and alumni serenaded those who work to train and mentor tomorrows physicians.

Jacksonville campuses who are exemplary in their contributions to medical education. Teaching scholars are more than mentors, however, they also serve as advisers to the Faculty Development Committee and College of Medicine Education Center.

College of Medicine Dean Michael Good, M.D., recognized faculty for their commitment to medical education as they groom and mentor students to become great residents, and residents who become great teachers.

On the heels of the announcement of the state’s approval of a new medical school in Florida, Good asked faculty to think about how they might build on UF COM’s rich tradition and proud heritage and quoted Arie de Geus, a retired executive of Royal Dutch Shell: “The ability to learn faster than your competitors may be the only sustainable competitive advantage.”
