Visiting dean to discuss work force issues surrounding women in medicine and science

The HSC Office of Equity and Diversity will hold a Diversity Dialogue on “Gender Issues in the Work force in Science and Medicine” from 11 a.m. to noon July 23 in C1-11 of the Communicore building.

Betty Drees, M.D., dean at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, will speak on the current workforce issues related to women in medicine and science, the concepts of gender economics in the workforce and strategies to enhance career development of women in medicine and science.

Drees earned her medical degree at the University of Kansas in 1984, specializing in internal medicine and endocrinology. Some of her positions include serving as chair of the Governing Council of the American Medical Association Section on Medical Schools, and serving on the Women in Medicine Coordinating Committee for the Association of American Medical Colleges.
