5k Run/Walk to benefit the Sebastian Ferrero Foundation

Run or walk in memory of 3-year-old Sebastian Ferrero this April in the Trot for Tots 5k event hosted by the College of Medicine and the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Proceeds from the event, to be held Sunday, April 26, will benefit the Sebastian Fererro Foundation, which was established after the young boy passed away following a series of medical errors at a UF outpatient clinic and UF and Shands HealthCare facilities in October 2007.

COM students organized the run to support the Sebastian Ferrero Foundation’s mission to fund improvements in pediatric care and support activities and initiatives that improve patient safety. Organizers also hope to raise awareness and continue to improve medical education in patient safety and quality improvement.

People of all ages and agility are invited to meet at 8 a.m. at the start and finish line at UF’s Gale Lemerand Drive commuter parking lot. The event will feature a live band, snacks, and prizes for first-, second- and third-place finishers.

The registration fee is $20 or $15 for students and includes a T-shirt. Visit www.sebastianferrero.org or contact Omayra Marrero at omarerro@ufl.edu, or (352) 281-1389 to register.
