Two faculty members and 19 medical students attended a holistic retreat April 25-28 in St. Augustine. The retreat was organized by the student chapter of the American Holistic Medical Association at the College of Medicine.
The AHMA seeks to educate health-care students about holistic medicine by helping them focus on personal health, self awareness and awareness of others. Jaimie Johnson, president of student chapter of AHMA and a second-year medical student, organized the retreat with the help of first-year medical student Mariana Khawand. Some of the weekend’s activities included a nature walk in the nearby Guana River State Park to exercise observational skills, a workshop on spirituality and health and a yoga class on the beach.
“The ocean, sunshine, and blue skies made it even easier to relax, reflect, and rejuvenate,” said Johnson.
