Shearer named to direct Cancer Survivorship Program

Patricia Shearer, M.D., associate professor in the division of pediatric hematology/oncology, has recently been named director of the Cancer Survivorship Program in the UF Shands Cancer Center. Shearer, a national leader in clinical care, research, and education in the field of survivors of childhood cancers, has shown outstanding leadership and teamwork in her service as interim director of the division of pediatric hematology/oncology for the past several months, said Dr. Bruce Kone.

The Cancer Survivorship Program is one of the seven designated programs of partnership with the Moffitt Cancer Center, providing an important resource for all of the cancer programs, Kone said. Shearer, working with colleagues at UF and at Moffitt, envisions the development of a model cancer survivorship program that spans the entire age continuum and all three academic missions.
